DERYNEIA - PARALIMNI: What are these metal arches at the roundabout? (PICTURES)

Only in this case one does not question his art, but reasonably raises questions about the symbolism of such a metal structure in roundabout on the borders of Deryneia - Paralimni.

This is a roundabout which until today, from the day of construction of the road that connects the 1st of April Avenue (“bypass”) in Paralimni with Eleftherias Avenue in Deryneia, had received strong criticism as well as comments on social media and beyond. after it remained unexploited for several years.

Nevertheless, recently, with a pleasant surprise, the residents of the area and the passers-by saw that slowly the renovation works of the roundabout were starting, with the result that today they have already been installed. three large white metal arches, in the style of the architectural masterpieces of the internationally acclaimed and well-known Spanish Architect and Civil Engineer Santiago Calatrava, which are the subject of discussion in terms of what they symbolize.

The project of regeneration of the roundabout which against 78% is located within the municipal limits Deryneia and against 22% within the municipal limits Paralimni was announced in February 2021 by the Municipality of Deryneia which posted and XNUMXD illustration of the project.

The project has been costed at €250.000, while the area of ​​the roundabout is 6.700 square meters making it the largest in Cyprus.

The plan arose when, on the initiative of the Municipality of Deryneia, a Committee consisting of municipal councilors from the two local authorities was set up to configure the junction and a team of engineers and an electrical engineer from the two Municipalities were submitted to submit their proposal.

According to the Municipality of Deryneia, the work symbolizes the past, the present and the future of the area and includes the central metal construction, the landscaping of the green spots with placement about 7 thousand plants and special lighting, thus giving a complete picture day and night.

The roundabout is located at a key point with directions to the four neighboring municipalities, Deryneia, Paralimni, Sotiras and Famagusta.

The contracts for the start of construction of the project were signed in June 2021 by the Municipality of Deryneia and the company L & L Earthmoving Contractors LTD.
