A chemical leak from a swimming pool engine room in an underground hotel area in Protaras occurred on Monday afternoon, with the Fire Department proceeding with a preventive evacuation of the area and the pool until the incident can be dealt with.
According to a statement from the Fire Service, "at 16:05 on Monday, June 30, the Famagusta Fire Station "Sergeant Adamou Adamou" received a call for a leak of chemical materials, creating fumes, from swimming pool engine room facilities, in an underground area of a hotel in Protaras."
A fire engine and a special chemical response vehicle responded to extinguish the fire.
Members of the Fire Department, in collaboration with the hotel staff, carried out a preventive evacuation of the hotel's underground area where the engine room and swimming pool were located."
It is added that "with the use of specialized suits and breathing apparatus, the underground space was ventilated and, in collaboration with a private company managing the pool's water maintenance materials, the materials were channeled into the pool, through a special device, for dissolution."
It is noted that no one was in danger from the incident.
