The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, in its announcement, welcomes today's (8/9/2025) announcement by the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, for the establishment of a District Education Office in Paralimni as well as the signing of contracts for the construction of a new High School in Paralimni worth 15 million euros, which will also include a 400 m. tartan track with eight lanes.
These are, as the announcement stated, two important decisions of the Government which resulted from ongoing efforts by the Municipality and the School Ephorate of Paralimni - Deryneia and are added to the already completed building and anti-seismic upgrade and expansion of the Paralimni High School, costing 5,5 million euros.
During his greeting during the visit of the President of the Republic and the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth to the Paralimni High School, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. George Nikolettos, pointed out that their presence, on the occasion of the start of the new school year, is of particular importance, as it sends a strong message of support to the educational community.
He also emphasized that the signing of the contract for the design of the second Paralimni High School marks the beginning of the implementation of a long-standing and historic request of the Municipality and the local community, a project that will provide a definitive solution to the problem of overcrowding of the existing school and at the same time lays the foundations for the creation of a modern educational center, which will also house the sports high school of the Famagusta district.
He expressed his warm thanks to the Ministry of Education, the Government, as well as the Paralimni-Dheryneia School Board for their efforts and practical support, expressing the hope that construction work will begin in 2026.
He also referred to the particular importance of creating an autonomous District Education Office in Paralimni, which would allow for more substantial and direct involvement in the educational issues of the region.
