The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia is strengthening its actions to protect the environment, proceeding with a collaboration with the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Association (CSTI) to reduce the use of single-use plastics in municipal facilities.
Within the framework of the “Destination Zero Waste Cyprus and Greece – Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic-Free” program, a meeting was held between representatives of the Municipality and CSTI with the aim of designing specific measures for the adoption of more sustainable practices. Among other things, the evaluation of the use of single-use plastics, their gradual replacement with environmentally friendly alternatives, the enhancement of recycling and the promotion of sustainable practices in municipal operations were discussed.
Particular emphasis was placed on informing and raising awareness among citizens, staff and local businesses, as well as on implementing practices without single-use plastics in municipal events and activities.
The initiative is a continuation of the Municipality's successful collaboration with CSTI, within the framework of which important actions have already been implemented, such as the establishment of Frenaros Primary School as a "Plastic-Free" school and the creation of two "Plastic-Free" beaches in the area.
Through this collaboration, the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia becomes the first municipality in Cyprus to proceed in an organized manner with the implementation of comprehensive "Plastic-Free" practices within the framework of this specific program, confirming its commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility.
