The Municipality of Paralimni issued an announcement about unlicensed and without certificates of suitability boats that carry out mini-cruises.

This announcement:

"The Municipal Council in its session on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 considered the matter of granting the real estate located in the area of the government dock for use by companies involved in coastal tourism.

After a thorough discussion, exchange of views and after taking into account as a matter of principle the obligation of all those who exercise economic activity in the Municipality to secure a permit, it was decided not to consider any application that will not be accompanied by a permit to exercise economic activity in the Municipality.

In addition, it was decided to remove all objects and signs located on the coastal promenade and on the sidewalks of the Municipality.

The companies that operate with tourist cruises and transport passengers refuse to issue such a license, claiming that they have no such obligation and that the certificate of suitability of their vessel gives them the right to carry out economic activity in the Municipality without a license, a position which violates the Law on Municipalities.

For example, and for the sake of comparison, just as a motor vehicle in order to circulate on the road needs a license, for the issuance of which a certificate of suitability of the vehicle is a necessary condition, so also the specific companies in order to carry out economic activity within the Municipality, must in addition to the certificate of suitability of their vessels, to hold the license in question.

Based on the Law on Municipalities, no company is allowed to carry out economic activity in the Municipality, without obtaining this license in advance.

The Municipality of Paralimni is ready to cooperate with everyone within the framework of the provisions of the legislation."
