An event on the occasion of the 147th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule and the national holiday of Bulgaria since its establishment as an autonomous state was organized on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Metropolitan Church of Saint George of Paralimni and at the Church's Spiritual Center.
The event included a Solemn Doxology at the Metropolitan Church of Saint George of Paralimni and a festive event at the Spiritual Center of the holy church and was organized by the Bulgarian school of Famagusta in collaboration with the Bulgarian-speaking parish of our Metropolis.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. George Nikolettos, stated that "this joint event, the relations that the Municipality has developed with the Bulgarian-speaking community of the province, as well as the operation of the Bulgarian school, constitute a living testimony to the close and timeless bonds of friendship that unite Cyprus and Bulgaria."
He also pointed out, among other things, that "the contribution of the Bulgarian School in the Famagusta district is invaluable, as it gives our Bulgarian fellow citizens the opportunity to preserve and transmit their cultural and linguistic heritage, while at the same time enriching our multicultural society."
He also emphasized that "the Bulgarian community in our region is a dynamic presence that strengthens and enriches the local society, while expressing the Municipality's deep appreciation for their contribution and important role in the progress and development of the region."
He stated that the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia prioritizes close cooperation with the Bulgarian community, constantly trying to strengthen communication and mutual support between us.
Finally, he expressed his warm congratulations to those who contributed to the event.
