The boat docked around 10 last night at the port police fishing shelter on the Golden Coast in Protaras.

Police proceeded to a detailed record of the details of the migrants, who, as they reported, started from the city of Tartus in Syria.

The occupants of the boat were 51 men, 10 women and 14 children, three of whom were unaccompanied.

They were transported by bus to the Reception Center for Asylum Seekers in Kofinou, where they will remain in quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A 39-year-old man from Syria, who was the captain of the boat and appears to be the migrant smuggler, was arrested in connection with the case around midnight. The 39-year-old was arrested with a court warrant and was detained in connection with an investigated case of aiding a third country person for illegal entry into the territory of the Republic.

The arrested person is expected to be brought before the District Court of Famagusta today for the issuance of a detention order.

The case is being investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
