The Famagusta District Administration issued an announcement clarifying the works that are being carried out on the beach Fig Tree Bay in Protaras.

In the announcement, the District Administration of Famagusta informs the public about the works carried out by a workshop of the Municipality of Paralimni to pump a quantity of sand from the sea to enrich the beach at a point where the sand has been displaced due to erosion.

As it is mentioned, permission has been granted for these works by the competent departments, while thanks are also expressed to the Municipality of Paralimni for the cooperation and for the projects in which they are promoted on the most popular beach of our country, while it is noted that the procedure applied with the instructions given by the Minister of Interior during the meeting held on March 26, 2018, in relation to the interventions on the beaches, and can be a model for any work desired by the local authorities or individuals on the beach.

The District Administration of Famagusta informs the visitors that in the bay Fig Tree in the area of ​​Protaras, a crew of the Municipality of Paralimni will proceed, within the next few days, to pump a quantity of sand from the sea, to enrich the beach at a point from which it has moved sand due to corrosion.

For the execution of these works, a permit has been granted by the competent Departments, namely the District Administration of Famagusta, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Environment, following a request submitted by the Municipality of Paralimni. For the purposes of granting the permit, autopsies have been carried out in the area by officials of the co-competent services, while coastal mechanical surveying and dredging studies have also been carried out. The permit has been granted under certain conditions and includes the taking of safety measures for both bathers and boats, conditions and measures that must be observed and applied throughout the work. It is clarified that the volumes have been precisely specified in the permit, as well as the points of receiving and depositing the sand.

Among the conditions set is the supervision of the work by staff of the District Administration. It is pointed out that the transport of sand to the specific point is necessary to avoid accidents or other unpleasant events in an area that, during the summer months, thousands of bathers and visitors move around.

The District Administration of Famagusta and the other competent Departments would like to express their gratitude to the Municipality of Paralimni for the excellent cooperation it has shown in dealing with a chronic problem that occurs on the beach in question, which is considered the most popular in Cyprus. one of the most popular in the Mediterranean.

On this occasion, it is indicated that the procedure, which is applied in this case, is in accordance with the instructions given by the Minister of Interior during the meeting held on March 26, 2018, in relation to the interventions on the beaches, and can be a model for any work they wish. to be carried out by local authorities or individuals on the beach. ”
