The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia welcomed on Saturday, February 28, 2026, representatives of the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Association, the Travel Foundation, the TUI Care Foundation and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) at Agia Triada Beach, in the context of promoting sustainable practices in tourism.
Agia Triada Beach, the first plastic-free beach in Cyprus under the “Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic Free” program, as well as Skoutarospilioi, highlight the Municipality’s strategy for a substantial reduction in single-use plastics. The spontaneous meeting of officials with students of Xenion High School, who were carrying out a clean-up action, highlighted the role of environmental education. It is noted that the beach is fully accessible to people with disabilities.
As the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia mentioned in his greeting, the day was particularly important, as Agia Triada has the distinct honor of being the first plastic-free beach in Cyprus and at the same time a model of accessibility and social inclusion. He stressed that the cooperation between the public and private sectors is an example to be followed for the preservation of the natural environment, thanking the partners, volunteers and citizens for their contribution, while reiterating the Municipality's commitment to expanding the program and strengthening sustainable development actions.
