The Famagusta Permanent Criminal Court on Thursday imposed a 10-year prison sentence on a 24-year-old European national, who was found guilty, following an admission, among others, of the offence of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, as well as related offences related to carrying an offensive instrument and disturbing the peace. The offences were committed in Paralimni on 16 August 2025.
The case concerned a violent incident in which the defendant attacked an 18-year-old Cypriot man with a knife, causing him serious injuries.
As reported, the incident occurred in a restaurant in the Kapparis area of Paralimni, where the accused attacked the complainant, inflicting repeated and serious blows to various parts of his body and seriously injuring him.
The court, it is noted in the decision, "took into account the seriousness of the acts, the circumstances of their commission, as well as the criminal record of the defendant, who had previous convictions for similar offenses, while he had been released from prison just 2 days before the incident in question."
In its decision, the Criminal Court underlined the need to prevent the use of violence and protect society, emphasizing that such offenses violate fundamental rights and create a sense of insecurity among citizens.
