An event honoring the deceased and living folk poets of Paralimni was organized on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in the event hall of the Paralimni - Deryneia Municipal Hall by the Cultural Workshop of Cypriot Tradition "Exedra".
During the event, the Mayor of Paralimni-Dheryneia, Mr. George Nikolettos, delivered a speech in which he expressed his emotion and congratulated the organizers for their initiative. He emphasized the contribution of folk poets to the preservation of cultural heritage, highlighting experiences, emotions and historical events through the power of speech.
He underlined the Municipality's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote folk tradition, mentioning the goal of registering the Paralimni voice on the UNESCO International List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, emphasizing the importance of registering the Feast of Saint George on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage and announced the organization of the first Traditional Culture Festival in April, entitled "Voices and Memories". In closing, he thanked the "Exedra" Association for its contribution to the preservation of the cultural identity of the place.
