Announcements of projects worth over 90 million euros for the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia by the President

The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia welcomes the announcements of projects worth over 90 million euros for the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, which were announced by the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, during the official event held at the Paralimni - Deryneia Town Hall, in the context of the Presentation of the Government's Priorities for the Famagusta District on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

At the same time, the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia hopes that the announcements will be translated into actions through the close cooperation of the President of the Republic, the members of the Council of Ministers as well as the Government Services with the Municipality, so that phenomena of non-implementation of projects that had been announced will not be observed again. For their part, the Mayor, the Municipal Council and the Municipality's service are committed to making every effort so that not only the specific ones, but also other projects that were requested and were not included, are implemented.

A particularly significant success for the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia is the announcement by the President of the Republic for the establishment in the Famagusta district of two branches of Higher Education Institutions from Greece, one in the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia and one in the Municipality of Ayia Napa. This specific announcement is a realization of the efforts that the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia is making on its own initiative as it is already in very advanced contacts and discussions with three Higher Education Institutions of Greece which express a keen interest in creating a branch in the Municipality. We hope that this announcement will soon become a reality.

The projects that have been announced by the President of the Republic as well as their implementation progress are listed below:

1. Construction of a multi-storey car park in Paralimni (€8 million): The project for which contracts have already been signed with the Contractor begins on March 4, 2025.
2. Improvement of the road connecting Vrysoudion Street with Pinia Street in Paralimni (€4 million): The survey and the master plan of the project are being prepared by the Municipality in collaboration with the Department of Urban Planning and Housing.
3. Construction of a road from the Agios Panteleimonas roundabout to the church of Agia Varvara in Paralimni (€5 million): The survey and the master plan of the project are being prepared by the Municipality in collaboration with the Department of Urban Planning and Housing.
4. Regulatory plans for the 2nd phase of the improvements of Stadiou Street, Giorki Papadopoulou Street and Adamantiou Korai Street in Paralimni (€14 million): For Stadiou Street, the Municipality is in the process of completing the study, while for Giorki Papadopoulou Street and Adamantiou Korai Street, the relevant studies are expected to be prepared. Also, for part of Giorki Papadopoulou Street, the study is at an advanced stage and tenders are expected to be announced immediately.
5. 4th phase of the Protaras Coastal Promenade (€18 million): It is clarified that the €18 million relates to the 4th and 5th Phases of the project. As for Phase XNUMX of the project, the design for submission for a revised Planning Permit is being completed soon.
6. Redevelopment of the traditional core of Frenaros (€1,3 million): The project is currently being measured by the Department of Urban Planning and Housing in order to announce the tender.
7. Redevelopment of the square and the core of Paralimni (€11,2 million): The project is in the planning phase.
8. Creation of a Linear Park in Acheritou (€1 million): Contracts for the project have already been signed as of December 14, 2024 and work has begun.
9. Upgrading of Paralimni High School building infrastructure (€5,5 million): The project is in the final stage of completion.
10. Construction of a new Paralimni High School (will also operate as an Athletic High School) (€15 million): The project is at the stage of assigning consultants.
11. Cultural and Conference Center Hall in the Municipality of Deryneia (€5 million): A tender has already been announced for the project.

At the same time, the creation of a Green Spot in Deryneia (€700 thousand), the repair of roads in the Frenaros Livestock Area, the upgrading of the Frenaros Sports Center, the upgrading of the Water Park in Deryneia (the work is 40% complete) as well as the development of the Picnic Area of ​​the chapel of Asprovouniotissa in Frenaros have been announced in the keynote speech of the President of the Republic.

Nevertheless, the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia has regrettably noted that the Southern Peripheral Road of Deryneia project is absent from the announcements of the President of the Republic. This is a mature project that has been underway for three years and for which the Department of Urban Planning and Housing and Public Works is awaiting its announcement (€11 million).

Also, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia submitted to the President, through a relevant memorandum, the following projects for which their maturity and execution are requested:

1. Olympic-standard swimming pool in Deryneia (the only province that does not have one is Famagusta).
2. Windmill roundabout road (Paralimni) to Sotira.
3. Deryneia - Frenarous Road.
4. Pernera Regional Park which will include facilities for the creation of recreational, entertainment and sports facilities.
5. Road connecting the Municipal Districts of Acheritos and Frenaros with the Green Point of Deryneia.
6. Cultural Center and Culture Workshop in Frenaros.
7. Multifunctional Cultural Center, Exhibition and Conference Center of Paralimni.

Finally, the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia hopes that the Government will commit not only to implementing the President of the Republic's promises but also to including all projects in the Municipality's state budget, so that significant projects for the region that upgrade the standard of living of the residents can be promoted.
