Fifty-one migrants from Syria and Lebanon aboard a boat were spotted Saturday at 11am off Famagusta. They ran aground in the dead zone in Kappari where they were received by members of the United Nations and then handed over to the Authorities of the Republic of Cyprus.
They are 35 men, 5 women and 11 children.
The boat with the migrants had been spotted by the radars of the port and naval police since Thursday, sailing in international waters.
Yesterday, the port received from the same boat a 28-year-old woman, her 8-month-old baby and two other babies for health reasons. All four were taken to Famagusta General Hospital for treatment.
On Saturday afternoon, all the migrants, after undergoing a coronavirus test, were transferred to the Pournara Hospitality Center, in Kokkinotrimythia.
