The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia has begun and is rapidly progressing the construction of wheel disinfection tanks (wheel baths), not only in the Livestock Area of the Municipal District of Frenaros, as provided for by the instructions of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, but also in the Livestock Zones of the Municipal Districts of Deryneia and Acherito.
The goal of the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia is to provide practical and substantial support to all livestock farmers in the area, with every available means, to protect them against the spread of foot-and-mouth disease and to protect local production and public health.

At the same time, in the Frenaros Livestock Area, the Municipality, in consultation with the Department of Agriculture and the Veterinary Services, proceeded to cut off the roads leading to the area, except for the two points where the wheel disinfection tanks are being constructed, with the aim of strictly controlling access and limiting the risk of disease transmission.

As stated by the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. Giorgos Nikolettos, from the very beginning the Municipality has stood by the livestock farmers, who are being severely tested by the threat of foot-and-mouth disease, noting that the Local Government is not limited to the minimum obligations arising from the state directives, but is taking initiatives and extending protection measures to other livestock farming zones. He also stressed that when the viability of the primary sector is at stake, immediate and decisive action is required, expressing the view that the measures that have been taken at the central level are not sufficient to cover the magnitude of the risk and underlining the need for more coordinated, substantial and timely support from the state, both at a preventive level and at the level of compensation.

The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia remains in constant communication with the competent services and calls on all professionals in the sector to strictly adhere to the prescribed biosecurity measures.
