The civil cooperation ecologists movement expresses its sadness and disgust at the incident of finding a dead flamingo in Lake Paralimni. In a statement, the Environmental Movement states that there is a lack of proper management of the Paralimni lake area and asks the government to implement the promises made to the land owners of the Paralimni lake for the reinstatement of the expropriation of their private plots, which cannot happen to any absolutely exploitable, and to draw up a comprehensive and efficient management plan to conserve both the natrix – natrix and the rest of the wonderful biodiversity that the lake hosts permanently and seasonally.

This is the announcement of the Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation:

"The images that make the rounds of the internet with the dead flamingo in Lake Paralimni cause great sadness.

Specifically, a citizen spotted a very sick flamingo on the shores of Lake Paralimni and took it immediately to a veterinarian. According to radiological examinations, the flamingo seems to have consumed a large amount of shrapnel that was in his stomach and neck, hence he finally exhaled despite the efforts of the veterinarian to remove them.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that we are confronted with such incidents, since both Aliki Larnaca and Lake Paralimni contain large quantities of shrapnel from the adjacent shooting ranges.

We point out and remind that for years we have been shouting about the problems faced by the degraded area of Lake Paralimni. The lack of proper management of an area included in the Natura 2000 program is of major importance, which is why the lake suffers from its timeless problems.

For the umpteenth time, we call on the government to deliver on the promises made to lakeside landowners to resume the expropriation of their private plots, which can no longer be fully exploited, and to draw up a comprehensive and efficient management plan to maintain both natrix - natrix and the rest of the wonderful biodiversity that our lake hosts permanently and seasonally.
