The University of Cyprus and the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia signed yesterday, February 17, 2025, a Memorandum of Cooperation, with the main aim of the cooperation of the Municipality's Services with the "Energy and Environmental Design of Buildings Laboratory" of the Department of Architecture of the Polytechnic School of the University of Cyprus.
The memorandum was signed by the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. George Nikolettos, and the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Dr. Tasos Christofides.
Specifically, the Municipality's collaboration with the University of Cyprus will focus on energy and environmental design, management, rehabilitation and upgrading of buildings and residential areas. The aim is to implement innovative models for the development of model residential areas, to scientifically support the Municipality's actions, and to undertake joint initiatives and activities in areas of common interest.
Within the framework of this collaboration, studies will be prepared for development and social projects. The research staff of the University of Cyprus will provide, among other things, expertise for the preparation of the strategic planning of the Municipality of Paralimni-Dheryneia 2027-2034, for the digital transformation/transition to an open digital civil society and for the transfer of knowledge and the implementation of good practices in areas deemed necessary.
The Memorandum is not limited to the cooperation of the Municipality with the Department of Architecture but also provides for cooperation with other academic Departments and entities of the University, such as Research Centers and Units, for the co-organization of joint scientific and educational events and activities, the placement of students and new graduates of the University of Cyprus in the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia, the involvement of students in projects, joint participation in funded research programs and related initiatives and activities.
