With traditional dances, songs and tastes, the Municipality of Paralimni welcomed thousands of local and foreign visitors to the "Festival of Ai Yorkou" which was revived again this year as part of UNESCO's National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The event that took place on Easter Monday, April 17, 2023, began with a dance parade through the streets of the city by the Cultural Workshop "Para ti Limni" of the Municipality of Paralimni, and then the great music and dance performance "Dancing in the Streets of Tradition" took place in the storehouse of St. George's Square.
The traditional dances from Cyprus and Greece were accompanied by the musicians Petroula Herodotou (singing), Kyriakos Markoullis, (Lute and Singing), Michalis Kyprianou (clarinet and bagpipe), Giorgos Lambrou (violin) and Andreas Kyprianou (percussion).
During the events, the members of the Metropolitan Church of Agios Georgios, the Catechetic Ensembles and the Choir "Anemoessa" of the Metropolitan Church of Agios Georgios baked traditional ofto kleftiko for the visitors.
"Panayrin t' Ai Yorkou" has been included in UNESCO's National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2018 in the field of oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals and celebrations.
