LAKE: There is a risk of flooding from the inflow river of Lake Paralimni

The rains and storms entered the weather menu for good, where in some cases, in fact, there was severe damage from the floods that were created in houses, buildings and public roads.

For the above reason, we searched the areas at risk of flooding, which number 19, within the free zones of the Republic of Cyprus.

The reason was the damage caused by the bad weather in Lympia last Saturday.

They count their losses in Lympia

In Lympia, residents are counting the damage from the bad weather where a synergy of the Larnaca District Administration rushed on Monday morning to record the damage caused by Saturday's torrential rains.

It is recalled that due to the torrential rains that fell on Saturday in Lympia, a torrent of torrent dragged three vehicles with passengers, without endangering lives, at the roundabout of the Community.

Also, the Fire Service received about 20 calls, despite the Community of Lympia, for flooded basements, while problems from the rains were created in the road network, as a result of which several roads were affected.
The 19 areas of Cyprus at risk of flooding

Pursuant to Directive 2007/60 / EC of the European Union, Member States are required to draw up flood risk maps (flood maps) showing the depth of the potential flood. On behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, the risk mapping was carried out by the Department of Water Development, which defined three levels of probabilities:

Flooding that returns (statistically) every 20 years or so - the 'light' incident

Flooding that returns (statistically) every 100 years or so - the 'moderately serious' incident

A flood that comes back (statistically) every 500 years or so - the 'very serious' incident
According to the study of the Department of Water Development, 19 areas of potential danger in free Cyprus were identified, which concern river flows.

Finally, the Kamares of Larnaca are influenced by the synonymous river Kamares.

Interactive maps

According to the Department of Water Development, interactive maps, on which you can find out if the property you are interested in will flood, are available separately for the probability levels listed above. It is important for citizens to know that floods are unlikely to occur in areas other than river flows if there are local factors (eg if the neighbor has blocked the flow of rainwater).
