A Court Order was executed today in the presence of the Mayor, members of the Municipal Council and staff of the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia as well as members of the Police and Officers of the Social Welfare Office, to remove the nuisance and prohibit the use of a complex of forty-four apartments in Paralimni.

With the decree issued by the District Court of Famagusta at the request of the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, the highly unacceptable situation in which people lived without doors and windows, without electricity, without water connection and the absence of functional sanitary facilities is lifted. The execution of the decree was carried out with the perfect cooperation and assistance of the Police and the Welfare Office, while it was preceded by the coordinated and problem-free removal and movement of the users and families.
The tragic prevailing conditions with the uncontrolled entry, use and pollution of the apartment complex as well as of the neighboring area, are finally brought to an end. And similar behavior will not be tolerated in the future.
In his statements, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. Giorgos Nikolettos thanked the Municipal Council for the unanimous decision on the request to issue the court decree, the Municipal Secretary, the Municipal Engineer and the staff of the Municipality for the cleaning operation of the complex, as well as the Police and the Social Welfare Service for the very good cooperation.
As he mentioned, in the particular complex of forty-four apartments, the situation resembled a war zone with apartments without doors, without windows, without connection to electricity, without connection to the Water Supply, without the necessary rudimentary sanitary facilities.
Unfortunately, as he said, this tragic situation prevailed for years in a residential area, close to the tourist area.
He pointed out that the Municipality managed to secure a court order to remove the nuisance with the right of the Municipality to intervene and fence off the area, in order to start cleaning work and prohibit the use of the specific area.
He also emphasized that the Municipality will not allow anyone to repeat the same and similar situations in any apartment of the Municipality, whether it is located in the tourist area or in the residential area.
These images of shame, he said, do not honor the Municipality and that the Municipal Council will continue its tireless efforts to improve the quality of life for both locals and our visitors.
