Signed today, at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Giannis Karousou, of the Minister of Interior Nikos Nouri, and the Mayor of Paralimni Theodorou Pyrilli the Contract for the implementation of the Project "Improvement of Kappari Avenue in Paralimni".
The Contract was signed on behalf of the Government by the Director of the Public Works Department Antony Koutsoullis and on behalf of the consortium "LOIS BUILDERS LTD" and "WADE ADAMS CONTRACTING (CYPRUS) LTD" Nikolas Lois.
The project concerns the northern part of it Kappari Avenue at Municipality of Paralimni, in the province of Famagusta, which so far has not improved.
The Master Plan was prepared by the Department of Urban Planning and Housing and the project will be financed from a fund of the Department of Urban Planning and Housing. The implementation of the Project is scheduled to begin in September 2021, with a duration of 24 months and costs € 6.426.762,00 plus VAT.
The new road network consists of the main length road network 2,07 km and from the secondary road network length 1,0 km about.
Specifically, the Project concerns its part Kappari Avenue which starts 270 meters north of the existing roundabout and ends in the neutral zone, on the border with the city of Famagusta (extension of Kennedy Avenue). The Road will also be improved at the Project Giorki Papadopoulou in the length of the order of 320 m. and one of its passing road, of Apollonos Street in the order of 150 m. as well as the creation of a new secondary road network of the order of 260 m. Lefkada street. The other passing roads that fall within the limits of the Project will be improved in the order of 30 m. From the main road each with the exception of the access to Lefkados Street which will be abolished.
The main road network includes two lanes with parking lots on both sides (parallel parking), paved sidewalks, green stripes on both sides, bike path 2.60 m wide on the right side of the road, pedestrians' crossing and bus stop bays.
In the last 250 m. It will be built new roundabout.
The secondary road network consists of two lanes with sidewalks. A bicycle path is also being built on Giorki Papadopoulou Street on the north side of the road.

The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Giannis Karousos stated during the event that Another proclamation of the President of the Republic is entering the implementation stage. Mr. Karousos stressed that "The improvement of Kappari Avenue is a basic urban road infrastructure and with the completion of the Project the area will be upgraded functionally, qualitatively and aesthetically".
He also pointed out that this project is another practical proof of the Government's determination to upgrade the road network throughout Cyprus. "Our goal is, where possible, to convert highways to make them more human-friendly, serving sustainable urban mobility, enhancing citizens' road safety and solving the traffic problem." underlined Mr. Karousos.
The Minister of the Interior Nikos Nouris he mentioned that Such development projects are a practical proof that the Government supports the Local Government and the local communities, at the same time showing special sensitivity in our remote areas without ignoring the contribution to the tourist product of our place.
"During a difficult financial year due to a pandemic, with the implementation of these important infrastructure projects, the Government proves that it does not deviate from the planning and announcements of the President of the Republic. And it is with these policies that we achieve the continuous strengthening of the development activity by making possible our upgrade from the international rating agencies " concluded Mr. Nouris.
Finally, the Mayor of Paralimni Theodoros Pyrillis mentioned the following: "This project will give a new impetus to the economy of our place and will connect Paralimni with the tourist area of Protaras. Kappari Avenue ends at the counter-line. We look forward to the day when Kennedy Avenue in Famagusta will be able to join Kappari Avenue. This is why a roundabout is created at the end of the road. I expect at that moment that Kappari Avenue, in the future, will be an extension of the road leading to Famagusta and will be renamed Kennedy Avenue ".
