PARALIMNI: Pyrillis from all the material for the square and works (VIDEO)

The Mayor in a full-length interview with Famagusta.News

Following his post on the cancellation of the expropriations, the Mayor of Paralimni gave a full interview on the square and the other projects in Famagusta.News

Renovation of a new square and expropriations

Theodoros Pyrillis, through his Facebook post yesterday, announced that they will not proceed with the expropriation of real estate for the design of the new square of the Municipality of Paralimni, as decided by the Municipal Council. However, the project will continue normally without the expropriations and will be presented to the citizens for public consultation.

For the project mentioned in Famagusta.News that the renovation plan of the Square of the Municipality of Paralimni started 4 years ago, where the designers who undertook the project proposed the expropriation of some properties so that the result would be better. At that time, according to the Mayor, the plan was approved by the Municipal Council in order, however, not to offend the property owners in the issue of compensation, nor the users of the stores.

He said "that the Municipal Council did not take the decision to lightly expropriate the heart but secured both the users and the owners, who could with the money they received acquire property of the same value elsewhere."

What happened at the Municipal Council session

According to the Mayor, until the day before yesterday, the Municipal Council took 7-8 decisions in order for the project to proceed as agreed. At the day before yesterday's session, some Municipal Councilors put forward the proposal for the cancellation of the expropriation of real estate, with him proposing to put the said plan with the expropriations before the citizens and after a public consultation to make the final decision. The Mayor stated that 7 Municipal Councilors voted against the plan with the expropriations of real estate for the design of the new Square. Thus, as he mentioned, the project will continue normally, without the expropriations, while he thanked all the Municipal Councilors for the whole cooperation. At the same time, for the tips he left in his post to Municipal Councilors for interests, the Mayor stated that everyone has to be accountable for himself.

The other projects that are in progress

There are a number of projects under construction worth over 100 million, according to Mayor Pyrillis. Some of the projects he mentioned to us are the Marina of Paralimni, the creation of a multi-storey car park, the upgrade of Kappari Avenue, the online service of the Municipality to the Citizens, and the expansion of the Coastal Walkway.

Finally, he told us that his vision for Paralimni is to evolve, to become a strong Municipality that will be able to meet the needs of both the demands and the new generation.
