On Monday, December 2, 2024, at the Paralimni - Deryneia Town Hall, the Sculpture Exhibition of Filippo Giapani "50 Years of Memories, 30 Years of the Sculptor's Cry" took place.
The exhibition was opened by the Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection Dr. Nikolas Ioannidis and the Director of Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, Dr. Nikolas Yasoumis, while the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. George Nicolettos.
During his greeting, Mr. Nicolettos emphasized that Philipos Giapanis is not only a top sculptor, but also a man who experienced the drama of the invasion as a prisoner of war. As he said, the dramatic moments he experienced, the pain, the agony, but also the strength of his soul are captured in a unique way in his works, while his art is a living testimony, a journey into the past that does not leave the viewer indifferent. He mentioned, at the same time, that the sculpture of Japanis goes beyond the limits of technical skill. "His works are not just objects of art; they are carriers of feelings, thoughts and experiences that reflect the deepest human anxieties.
With exceptional expressiveness and richness of meaning, his creations become the means to tell us his story, the story of our country. Each sculpture is a silent cry for justice, an invitation to reflection and a reminder of the need to keep the memory alive.” As part of the event, a documentary dedicated to the memories and captivity of Filippo Yapanis in 1974 during the dark days of the Turkish invasion was screened. , while the sculptor described the conception of the idea as well as his experiences from both the Turkish invasion as well as for his course through sculpture.
The exhibition, which is under the auspices of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, will remain open until December 11, 2024 (Monday - Friday 08:00-20:00 and Saturday and Sunday 10:00-20:00), while it is part of in the context of the events of the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia for the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of 1974 and for half a century of continuous occupation and violation of human rights.
