With deep emotion and national pride, the funeral of the bones of the hero Theodoros Adamos Koumis, a reserve gunner of the 181st Field Artillery Squadron, who fell at the age of 23 during the Turkish invasion of 1974, was held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Metropolitan Church of Saint George of Paralimni.

His bones were found at the site of his sacrifice, at the Synchari - Pella Pais crossing, and were identified by DNA. Theodoros Adamou Koumis is among the fallen of the 181st Field Artillery Squadron, which on July 23, 1974, the first day of the armistice, was ambushed in the area, resulting in the loss of dozens of officers and soldiers.

The funeral procession was attended by representatives of the State, the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, the National Guard, organized groups and a large crowd of people, paying their due respects to yet another hero of the heroic land of Paralimni.

The Government was represented by Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis.

During his funeral speech, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. George Nikolettos, emphasized that "the name of Theodoros Adamos Koumis is added to the long list of Paralimni heroes who fought and fell defending the homeland. Paralimni, a land of heroes, does not forget its children. Their memory is a sacred legacy and our constant responsibility towards History and future generations."

The burial followed at the Paralimni Municipal Cemetery with the prescribed military honors.
