The annual commemoration of the victims of the "Helios" plane tragedy was held today at the Metropolitan Church of Agios Georgios Paralimni, presided over by Metropolitan Kitios Nektarios. The Government was represented by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Mr. Kostas Koumis.
Afterwards, a trisage was held and wreaths were laid at the Paralimni cemetery. For the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, the Mayor Mr. Giorgos Nikolettos laid a wreath.
On the evening of Saturday, August 10, 2024, 121 memorial candles were lit in the square of Paralimni for the unspeakable tragedy that took place on the black August of 2005 when the flight of "Helios" extinguished forever the dreams of 121 souls and their families.
Present at the modest event was the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. Giorgos Nikolettos, as well as the Deputy Mayor of Paralimni, Mr. Kleanthis Koutsoftas. Afterwards, a memorial service was held in memory of the victims.
