So far, more than two hundred have been received as part of the laboratory tests carried out by employees of the private and wider public sector that have been carried out since last Saturday in the province of Famagusta and specifically at the sampling point set in the parking lot of Stadio Stadium. .
As of yesterday Sunday, 180 samples have been taken, while it is expected that by the afternoon of Holy Monday another 80 samples will be taken. According to information from Famagusta.News, on Saturday during the first day of operation of the Center, 40 samples were taken, mainly from private sector employees, while on Sunday a total of 140 samples were taken, which is the largest number of samples taken in a nationwide day. Also, today, until 4 pm, another 80 samples are expected to be taken.

Conducting laboratory tests
Considering the increase in the availability of consumables and the importance of conducting more laboratory tests (tests) to deal with the pandemic of the disease COVID-19 and listening to the desire of the citizens for more controls, the Council of Ministers decided at its meeting on April 8, 2020, to subsidize the conduct of 20,000 laboratory tests, which will be completed within 20 days in collaboration with private laboratories, based in Cyprus, criteria set by the Ministry of Health.
The laboratory tests will be performed on citizens residing in the Republic and who, according to the Decree of the Minister of Health, dated April 8, 2020, continue to work and therefore are more likely to be exposed to the virus. Indicatively, it concerns categories:
- of the public and wider public sector and of the Local Government with priority given to the services that serve the public,
- of the National Guard,
- of the police,
- of the Fire Brigade, and
- of the private sector with priority in companies that serve the public (eg banks, post office, gas stations), as well as in food and beverage retail businesses (eg supermarkets, kiosks, supermarkets, bakeries, etc.).
The distribution of the 20,000 laboratory tests per Province was based on the epidemiological data and demographic data of the Statistical Service, in order to achieve an equal distribution of laboratory tests per Province.
The laboratories that have been selected so far meet the requirements for laboratory tests with the Real-Time PCR (molecular test) methodology and are able to start sampling immediately. A detailed list of contracted laboratories (in alphabetical order) as well as sampling points is attached.
In addition, it is stated that, on the basis of the contract, the participating laboratories will notify the Laboratory Supervision Unit within 48 hours of sampling the results of the laboratory tests, giving priority to the positive ones, so that the tracking process can begin immediately.
It should be noted that citizens wishing to take the laboratory test and who meet the criteria of the program should contact the laboratory of their choice directly for appointment and for confirmation purposes, should be provided upon sampling. to certify the status of the employee.
