A written statement by the Mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, states that "the common position for the unification of the entire free province of Famagusta into a single Municipality was expressed at a meeting held recently at the Municipal Palace, which was attended by all those who served in the local government. ».
At the meeting, "the Mayor of Paralimni presented the prospects of the Local Government reform, as promoted by the Ministry of Interior, as well as the benefits on the one hand, to the local authorities that will acquire increased responsibilities and powers and on the other hand to the citizens who will enjoy upgraded services. at the same or lower cost ".
In his presentation, the Mayor of Paralimni referred to the disadvantages of the province of Famagusta compared to other provinces, such as the unequal treatment by the decision-making centers, the non-promotion of a unified Local Plan, the negligible absorption of state and European funds, the lack of coordination between Municipalities and Communities ".
According to the announcement, "during the presentation, the advantages that will be created with the existence of a single Municipality, such as the low cost of services for the citizen, the transformation of the proposed single Municipality into the largest budget Municipality of Cyprus, the largest in area as and in the largest Municipality in terms of supply to the country's GDP, the huge dynamic participation in the decisions taken in the decision-making centers as well as the huge dynamic growth ".
They also pointed out the many disadvantages that the possible division of the free province of Famagusta will bring, such as the high cost for the citizen with the high cost taxes, the fact of the existence of three equivalent small Municipalities and their equalization with Municipalities such as Polis Chrysochous, Dali, Lefkara and Athienou as well as minimal influence in decision-making centers. It was also pointed out the deterioration of the quality of the services offered to the citizen as well as the difficulty of finding resources for local authorities which will depend on the taxes of their citizens, without being able to create surplus budgets as they will not have opportunities for further economic development.
At the meeting it was decided "to support the efforts for a unified Municipality for the whole free province of Famagusta and the complete opposition to the catastrophic scenario Paralimni not to participate in the reform and to be left alone".
