The Kataklysmos events organized by the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia continued with a presentation of folk poets and a traditional concert.
The event, which took place at Kataklysmos Square in Protaras next to the famous Fig Tree Bay beach, included a traditional music concert with the traditional group “Oi Las” and the participation of the dance group of the Traditional Group “Chrysospiliotissa” of Deftera.
Poems, love couplets and scraps were also presented by the folk poets Androula Menoikou “Athasia”, Aglaia Paraschou Sergiou, Irini Pelagia, Takis Skaros, Xenakis Patsalos, Takis Zouvanis, Thomas Thomas, Elias Hadjimichael, Andreas Koutsoloukas, Andreas Mamas, Antonakis Krasas, Konstantinos Gryllias and Andreas Siantanis. The folk poets were coordinated by Ethnomusicologist Dr. Nicoletta Dimitriou while the event program was presented by the journalist and news anchor of the RIK Despina Pourekkou.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Paralimni-Dheryneia, Mr. George Nikolettos, stated that the event is a tribute to the folk poets, the authentic exponents of the wisdom of our people, who keep the tradition alive with their spoken word and pen. He emphasized that this year the Municipality took the initiative to invite poets from the region with the aim of highlighting their work and giving the public the opportunity to experience firsthand the style, authenticity and beauty of folk poetry.
He warmly thanked the participants who willingly responded to the invitation and emphasized that with their participation they contribute substantially to the lively and creative transmission of our oral tradition from generation to generation.
