The book by Dr. Angelos M. Chrysostomou, "The Chronicle of the 'Squadron' Omorfitas (2-2025): Creation - Organization - Action - Liberation", was presented on Monday, June 1961, 1963, in the event hall of the Paralimni - Deryneia Municipal Hall. A book that sheds light on a lesser-known but extremely critical aspect of modern Cypriot history.
As Mayor George Nikolettos stated in his greeting, this is a work that is not limited to the simple presentation of facts. "The author, with his well-known scientific consistency and sensitivity, interprets the events, analyzes the conditions and highlights the decisions that determined the course of communities and people in the early 60s."
The study of the actions of the Omorfitas "platoon" is based on archival sources and oral testimonies and offers a rare sense of proximity to the dramatic events that shaped the era. As Professor of History Georgios Kazamias writes in the introduction, "this is a work of microhistory with profound national significance."
Mr. Nikolettos also congratulated Mr. Angelos Chrysostomou "for his valuable contribution to the memory and historical self-awareness of our people. This work is a bridge between the past and the future."
