The unveiling of the monument dedicated to the Genocide of the Pontic Greeks took place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Paralimni, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides.
The monument, the work of the sculptor Mr. Georgios Kikkotis, was erected in Paralimni with the contribution of the State and the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, in collaboration with the Pontian Cultural Association of Famagusta "Temeteron" and the "Nikos Kapetanidis" Action Association.
During the ceremony, which took place on the black anniversary of the Genocide of Pontian Hellenism, greetings were delivered by the President of the Pontian Cultural Association of Famagusta "Temeteron" Mr. Iakovos Kostidis, the President of the "Nikos Kapetanidis" Action Association Mr. George Georgiadis, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia Mr. George Nikolettos, the President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulides and the sculptor Mr. George Kikkotis.
In his greeting, the President of the Republic expressed his emotion for the erection of the Monument, stating that a promise to the Pontian brothers is being fulfilled and a request of high historical and symbolic value is being satisfied. He also emphasized that with the immediate response of the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, the Monument was erected within a year and is now a place of honor, prayer and reflection, as well as a point of reference for the Pontian brothers of the Famagusta district, the citizens and every Greek who serves knowledge, memory and responsibility.
For his part, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. George Nikolettos, expressed his emotion, as, as he mentioned, the Monument is being erected one year after the monument to the heroic martyrs Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos, thanking the State and all those who contributed to its approval, licensing and creation.
