EPITAPH IN OCCUPIED Famagusta
The Holy Diocese of Constantia of Famagusta and the initiative group of Famagusta and our city, announce that, on the afternoon of Good Friday, April 6, 2018, the Epitaph service will be held at the Church of Agios Georgios of Exorinos in the walled city of A.
The program is configured as follows:
At 1:00 p.m. will be the sequence of Christ's burial. From that time on, the faithful can come to worship the Epitaph.
At 4:30 p.m. the procession of the Epitaph and then at 6:30 p.m. the procession of the Epitaph in the walled city of Famagusta.
For the convenience of the faithful, FREE buses will be launched from all cities.
- Paralimni: Departure from Agios Georgios Paralimni square at 3:30 p.m.
- Larnaca: Departure from the Fire Department at 3:00 p.m.
- Limassol: Departure from Agios Georgios Havouzas at 1:30 p.m.
- Paphos: Departure from Paphos Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
- Nicosia: Departure from the Handicraft Center at 2:30 p.m.
AYIA NAPA
On Good Friday, the procession of the Epitaph will take place around 10.00 in the evening main streets and narrow streets of the city. The procession will be led by the Band of the Municipality / Church of Panagia Ayia Napa and young girls will sing "Ai geneai pasai".
On Holy Saturday at 8.30 pm before the Resurrection Sequence, the lighting of Lambratzia and the burning of Judas will take place in the northern area of the Monastery. It will also revive for another year an old traditional custom which is the jokes in the fire and their beating on the ground.
On Easter Sunday at 10.30 in the morning, the Vespers of Love will be celebrated at the Holy Temple of Panagia Ayia Napa, where the Gospel will be read in various languages. A rich artistic traditional program follows at 7.00 pm, which will last until late at night. The program will start with dances and songs from Cyprus, the islands, Asia Minor, Epirus, which will be presented by the Dance Club of the Municipality of Ayia Napa and Kimon Xylotympou. Afterwards, the young singer Emma Cutajar from Malta will sing Maltese traditional songs and the evening will end with the music and dance performance "Leme Christos Anesti with music and dance" curated by the Maria Zintili Music Group and the Cultural Club, "The Tradition »Liopetriou.
On Easter Monday, the Municipality of Ayia Napa together with the Youth Council of the Municipality organize in the Monastery Square an all-day Lampriato feast, which will start at 1.00 at noon and will last until midnight. The Easter spree includes dances, songs, folk poetry, tsiattista, with the Musical Group of Andreas Nikolaou, Kyriakos Mapouras and Vasiliki X '' Adamou, souces and tsiattista under the table by the Dance Club of the Municipality of Agias 16.30 17.30), traditional games (17.30-19.00), baking spear and food in the traditional oven and plenty of drink which will be available for sale.
PARALIMNI
On Good Friday the icons of the churches are dressed in black and the bells sound mournful. It is the hours of crucifixion and decapitation. From the crosses of the churches the priest takes down the full-length wood-carved image of Jesus wrapped in a white sheet and walks it inside the temple. In an all-encompassing and moving atmosphere, the immortal body of Jesus Christ is dismantled and in the evening in the three churches of the city follows the procession of the Epitaph of Lament under the mournful sounds of the Symphony Band "HARMONY" of the Municipality of Paralimni.
In the early hours of Holy Saturday we have the first Resurrection, with the normal resurrection sequence "Good Speech", taking place a few hours later, on the night of Holy Saturday to Sunday. There is the reading of the Gospel accompanied by the sounds of joyful bells and at twelve "Christ is Risen" is sung everywhere. The celebration of the Resurrection is of course accompanied by bells, impressive fireworks and sparklers that tear the sky and crackers are broken in every point of all three churches. After the Resurrection, people gather in houses to celebrate.
On Easter Sunday, the Vespers of Love take place and the image of the Resurrection is liturgized. In the evening, an island party is organized with local music and dance groups, plenty of delicacies and traditional wine with the musical group "AEGEAN SEA", an event which will be accompanied by dancing with the Cultural Association "ANADYSI". The Association of Chefs of Cyprus - Famagusta Province will serve sushi, trachana and "pompes" as well as sangria to support the vulnerable groups of our Province.
On Easter Monday, the main streets of the city are crowded with dancers of the Cultural Laboratory "PARA TI LIMNI" who parade dancing, dressed in traditional costume in traditional drumbeats. During the procession, which includes the locals who are along the sidewalks, representations of the harvest are made, holding carts, scythes, forming the carousel with bright colors and ribbons. With the completion of the parade, a traditional Easter party will take place in the central square of the Municipality.
SAVIOR
An event with traditional Easter toys is organized in Sotira on Easter Monday, April 9 in the courtyard of the Holy Temple of the Transfiguration of the Savior.
The event entitled "Everyone goes to Church for Christ is Risen" will start at 2 pm and will continue until the evening and will include traditional games of Lambra as well as artistic dance and theatrical program from the Catechism Meetings and the Traditional Dance Workshop of Catholic Church Savior.

DERYNEIA
Anagennisi Deryneia organizes for another year the traditional "KALYFES TIS LAMPRIS" on Easter Monday in the square of the church of Panagia in the center of Deryneia.
The event that has been taking place for many decades and is part of the Deryneio tradition will include traditional Easter games from EDON and an artistic program with live music.
During the celebration, rich food and drinks will be offered in a specially designed area in the square.
The event is expected to be attended by over 2 thousand people from Deryneia and visitors and is organized by dozens of volunteer members and friends of the association.
AUGUST
On Easter Monday, the Folklore Group "Avkoritissa Foni" organizes at one o'clock in the afternoon in the precinct of the church of Apostles Peter and Paul a music and dance event with the musical group of Vasiliki Hatziadamou.
