Eighteen of the sixty-six Blue Flags nationwide were awarded by the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia at today's nationwide ceremony held at the famous and multi-awarded Fig Tree Bay beach in Protaras. Specifically, these are the beaches: Armyropigado, Lombardi, Glyky Nero, Kapparis, Skoutarospilioi, Agia Triada, Minas, Vrysoudia, Louma, Pernera, Potami, Vryssi C, Vryssi B, Vryssi A, Protaras (Fig Tree Bay), Vyzakia, Nisia and Nisia Gardens.
At today's ceremony, the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia won the most Blue Flags nationwide, demonstrating the quality of the swimming areas as well as the services provided to bathers.
It is noted that Konnos beach was also awarded the Blue Flag, which although 80% falls within the municipal boundaries of Paralimni - Deryneia, nevertheless the Blue Flag is awarded to the Municipality of Ayia Napa. In his greeting, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. George Nikolettos, highlighted the efforts and the significant investment that the Municipality is making in order to continuously upgrade services to visitors. At the same time, he asked the Government to provide more support to local authorities through further staffing of lifeguard services on the beaches for the safety of bathers.
For her part, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development continued the local authorities and emphasized the Ministry's ongoing efforts for sustainable development. The Blue Flag is an international institution that promotes environmental awareness and is awarded to beaches that meet the criteria of the National Criterion's evaluation for the purity of bathing waters. It is the most recognizable and widespread ecological symbol of quality in the world, which rewards organized beaches and is awarded according to strict criteria.
