A fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon in a first-floor apartment of a residential complex in the Kapparis area, in the Famagusta district, causing extensive damage and injuring a neighbor.
According to the Fire Service, the call was received at 19:02 and the Famagusta Fire Station "Sergeant Adamou Adamou" responded to the scene with two fire engines. The fire was brought under full control at 19:15.
The fire initially broke out on the balcony of the apartment and spread inside when the glass display case on the veranda broke. The flames and intense heat caused extensive damage to part of the apartment's contents, while the paint on the walls and the floor of the space were affected.
Before the Fire Department arrived, a neighbor attempted to put out the fire, resulting in an injury to his hand. Firefighters provided him with first aid and he was then taken to the Accident and Emergency Department of Famagusta General Hospital for further treatment.
The apartment occupant managed to safely leave the residence before the arrival of the fire department.
The causes of the fire are being investigated by the Fire Department. According to initial estimates, it is possible that the fire was caused by smoking remains, such as cigarette butts, which were extinguished in a pot with plants on the balcony.
