A 53-year-old tourist, who was injured in a road collision that occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, May 9, in Paralimni, is hospitalized in an extremely critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

As stated by Steve Theodoulou, press representative of the Famagusta Police Department, "around five o'clock yesterday evening, information was received at the Paralimni Police Station, about a traffic accident near the Golden Coast Hotel. Members of the Paralimni Police Station and the Famagusta Traffic Police went to the scene where, after investigations, it was found that a short time before, a tourist from Britain and now a resident of Paralimni, aged 53, was driving a rental car on Vrysoudion Street in Paralimni, in the direction of the Holy Trinity towards Pinias Street".

He added that "at some point on Vrysoudion Street and under circumstances that are being investigated, the 53-year-old lost control of the car, as a result of which he entered the left sidewalk, followed an uncontrolled course, hit a tree that was on the sidewalk and stopped. As a result of the collision, the 53-year-old was injured and transferred to the Accident and Emergency Department of Famagusta General Hospital, where after examinations it was found that he has skull fractures, abdominal and chest injuries and a leg fracture."

As Mr. Theodoulou said, "due to the seriousness of his condition, the 53-year-old was intubated and transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, with his state of health considered extremely critical. Due to the severity of the 53-year-old's injuries, it was not possible to carry out a preliminary alcohol test, however, blood samples were taken at the Famagusta General Hospital for an alcohol test."

The crash caused “extensive damage to the entire front of the car and to the front windshield and the rest of the car. From the Police investigations, it has not been clarified whether the 53-year-old was wearing a seat belt."

The case is being investigated by the Paralimni Police Station.
