The charity swimming race "SWIM 4Km FOR AUTISM" took place on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Special Olympics champion Dimitris Giannis, with his well-known perseverance, faith and inexhaustible mental strength, successfully completed this year's effort, swimming four kilometers from Almyropigado beach in the Kapparis area. Dimitris covered the course in 95 minutes, improving his performance last year by 20 minutes.
This commendable effort is organized every year by the Famagusta District Autism Support Association "Smile Project", with the aim of supporting the Association's work for people with autism and their families.
The Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia expressed warm congratulations to Dimitris Giannis for his exceptional effort and contribution, as well as to the athlete's two companions, as well as gratitude to all the contributors to the "Smile Project" for the valuable work they do.
He pointed out that such acts highlight the greatness of the soul and are an inspiration to everyone. He also emphasized that the Municipality will continue to support actions that promote social sensitivity, solidarity and acceptance of diversity.
