Relatives of the victims "Helios" in Grammatiko 14 August, commemorative event on Saturday in Paralimni

With a modest ceremony that will take place on Saturday, August 11 at 8 pm in Agios Georgios Square in Paralimni, relatives of the victims of the "Helios" plane crash, which took place on August 14, 2005, killing 121 people, will honor their memory by lighting symbolic candles.

Besides, on Wednesday morning, August 14, the Divine Liturgy will be performed in the church that was built in Grammatiko, Attica, where the plane crashed. A memorial service for the victims of the plane crash will then be held, followed by a procession to the top of the mountain where the aircraft's tail was located. For this purpose, it is expected that around 60 people, relatives of the victims of the accident from Cyprus will go to Athens.

As Alkis Georgiou stated to KYPE on behalf of the initiative group of relatives of the victims of the "Helios" plane crash, next Saturday at 8 pm a memorial event will be held for the 121 victims of the air tragedy, apart from Paralimni and Europe Square, in Larnaca. It will be a modest ceremony during which candles will be lit in memory of the victims, said Mr. Georgiou.

Speaking to KYPE from Athens, Mrs. Niki Michailidou, who lost her husband in the accident, said that on Tuesday, August 14, there will be a Divine Liturgy and a memorial service in the church built in Grammatiko and then a trishagio at the top of the mountain, in in the presence of about 60 relatives who are expected to go for this purpose from Cyprus to Athens.

Mrs. Michailidou said that the Metropolitan of Kifissia, Maroussi and Oropos, Cyril, will officiate at the memorial service, while the Ambassador of Cyprus to Greece, Kyriakos Kenevezos, will also be present.

"The Liturgy will take place in the Church, the memorial service and then we will climb to the top of the black mountain, as we called it, where the tail of the aircraft was found and it will become a trishagio when the plane crashed", said Mrs. Michailidou

On the morning of August 14, 2005, Boeing 737 of Helios Airlines operated Flight 522 from Larnaca to Prague. He had departed at 9 and 10 in the morning from Larnaca airport and would make a stopover at Eleftherios Venizelos in Athens.

The plane was carrying 115 passengers and a six-member crew. The 103 passengers were Cypriot nationals and the 12 Greeks.
