The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia expresses its warm thanks to the Embassy of the People's Republic of China for the invitation and the opportunity to participate in the International Conference on Energy Transition and Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) Emissions Reduction, which was held in Beijing within the framework of the "Belt & Road" initiative.
Due to the Mayor's commitments, the Municipality was represented by the Deputy Mayors of Deryneia, Mr. Nikos G. Lilis, and of Vrysoulon Acheritou, Mr. Michalis Kaunas, who participated in a fifteen-day program with scientific conferences, information seminars, institutional meetings and visits to important development and cultural infrastructures in China.
The mission participated in an international conference on energy transition, CO₂ capture and utilization technologies, renewable energy sources and policies for low-carbon economies. The conference brought together scientists, researchers and academics from all over the world, offering important opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
It was a particular honor for the Cypriot delegation to represent the nine countries that participated in the program at the official closing ceremony. In his address, the Deputy Mayor of Deryneia, Mr. Nikos G. Lilis, thanked the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, the Academy of International Business Executives (AIBO), the China University of Petroleum and all the contributors to the program for the excellent organization and hospitality.
During their stay in China, the Municipality representatives visited the Yunnan Baiyao Pharmaceutical Complex in Kunming City, Erhai Lake in Dali City, as well as important cultural and historical sites, such as the Great Wall of China, Fengyangyi Traditional Village, and Dragon Boat Festival events.
The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia considers participation in international initiatives that enhance cooperation, the exchange of know-how and the promotion of sustainable development practices to be particularly important.
