On Monday, December 29, 2025, a meeting was held at the Paralimni - Deryneia Town Hall, in the presence of the Mayor, the Deputy Mayors of the Municipal Districts, the Vice President of the Famagusta District Local Government Organization, the General Director and the Head of the Technical Services of the Organization, Municipal Councilors, the Municipal Engineer and service officers of the Municipality, as well as the Heads of the Famagusta District Fire Department.
The main topic of the meeting was the immediate actions to remedy serious and long-standing problems concerning the channeling of rainwater in specific areas of the Municipality. During the discussion, existing data was examined and suggestions were made for the adoption of targeted and immediately applicable measures, with the aim of reducing risks and improving flood protection.
It was emphasized that, following the reform of the Local Government, the responsibility for the management and channeling of rainwater now belongs to the Famagusta District Local Government Organization, with which the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia is in constant communication and close cooperation, with the common goal of immediately and effectively resolving the problems.
Finally, the expectation was expressed that the state would proceed immediately with the release and approval of the necessary fund of 12 million euros, in order to enable the announcement of tenders and the implementation of the necessary flood control projects that the Municipality urgently needs. The meeting concluded in a climate of convergence of views, while the implementation of immediate intervention measures to prevent and reduce the problems observed has already begun.
