The entire state, the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia and the local government bid farewell yesterday with deep sadness to the former Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Theodoros Pyrillis.
The funeral service was held at the Metropolitan Church of Saint George of Paralimni, presided over by the Bishop of Karpasia, Mr. Christophoros, and in the presence of, among others, the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, the President of the Parliament, Ms. Annita Demetriou, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. Giorgos Nikolettos, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Alexis Vafeadis, and the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Costas Koumis.
During his funeral, the Mayor of Paralimni-Derynia, Mr. George Nikolettos, stated that everyone was present with a heavy heart to bid farewell to a man who marked the course of the country with his work and character. He emphasized that the death of Theodoros Pyrillis caused deep emotion, as he left unexpectedly, leaving a great and irreplaceable void.
He pointed out that he was not just a Mayor, but a genuine patriot and visionary of progress, who worked hard and selflessly for the common good since 2003. He recalled that he served the Municipality with dedication and that his vision for a modern and humane Paralimni became a reality through projects and infrastructure. He also mentioned that the deceased was not limited to the narrow boundaries of the Municipality, but fought for the wider province of Famagusta, firmly believing in hope and progress, even in his last days.
Mr. Nicolettos emphasized that Theodoros Pyrillis never sought personal gain or glory, but was driven by duty, responsibility and humanity, while behind his strong character there was deep sensitivity and discretion.
He stressed that his imprint remains indelible both in his works and in the hearts of those who knew him. He stated that the entire province and the local government are mourning, and that his work and memory will continue to inspire.
He concluded by expressing, on behalf of the Municipality, sincere condolences to his family and loved ones, and bid farewell to Theodoros with words of emotion and respect.
The funeral eulogy was also delivered by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Costas Koumis, the Protosyngellos of the Holy Metropolis of Constantia and Famagusta, Archimandrite Mr. Augustinos Kkaras, the best man of the late Mr. Andreas Pittatzis and his son, Mr. Anastasios Pyrillis.
