The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia informs that the installation of the mosaic created by the artist Eleni-Glykeria Voliotou-Zervou, in honor of the heroes Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomos, on their grave in the cemetery, has been completed.
The work, of large dimensions, approximately 90 x 60 centimeters, depicts the faces of the two heroes and is accompanied by verses from Evagoras Pallikaridis' emblematic poem "I will take an uphill climb", symbolically connecting the sacrifice of the two heroes with the struggle and historical memory of Cyprus.
The mosaic was presented on June 12, 2007 at the Athens War Museum, as part of an event on the Cyprus issue organized by the Coordinating Committee for the Defense of the Struggle for a Free Cyprus (S.E.Y.A.E.K.). The presentation took place before important personalities, including the then Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus Georgios Giorgis, the Honorary Ambassador Themos Stoforopoulos, the General (retd.) Dimitrios Alevromagiros, as well as academics, diplomats and activists for Cyprus.
The artist had then expressed her intention to donate the work to the Republic of Cyprus. The mosaic was subsequently transferred to the then Municipality of Paralimni, under the mayoralty of Andreas Evangelos.
Today, the work finds its rightful place, in the place where the two heroes rest, now constituting a permanent point of memory and honor.
The installation took place in the presence of Tasos Isaak's mother, in a particularly moving moment, which further highlighted the symbolism of the work and the timeless importance of the sacrifice of the two heroes.
The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia expresses its warm thanks to the artist for her contribution, as well as to all those who contributed to ensuring that this work is preserved and finally placed in the position it deserves.
