At a press conference held today, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the Paralimni - Deryneia Town Hall, this year's King of the Famagusta Carnival, actor Alkis Christou, was presented.
Popular actor Alkis Christou will embody this year’s king of the Famagusta Carnival as the “Aqua King, King of the Seas”. The theme of this year’s Carnival is inspired by the mythical god Poseidon, who according to legend, after a disagreement with his brother Zeus, struck with force his trident, scattering Lycaonia - a country in the south of Asia Minor - thus creating Sardinia, Euboea and Cyprus. The King of the Seas as the protector of the waters of the Famagusta district, inspired by the long-standing maritime history of the region and the relationship of people with the sea.
During the press presentation of the Famagusta Carnival King, representatives of the Municipality and the Carnival Committee extended an invitation to all citizens to participate in this year's events.
The Mayor of Paralimni – Deryneia, Mr. George Nikolettos, stated that the area is preparing to welcome thousands of carnivalists and thousands of spectators, inviting them to experience the warmest and friendliest carnival in Cyprus. He expressed his optimism that this year all visitor records will be broken, offering a unique experience to those present. He emphasized that together with the Famagusta Carnival Committee and the Municipality Culture Committee, they are inviting people from all over Cyprus to the area to experience the most carefree moments.
The King of the Famagusta Carnival 2025, Mr. Alkis Christou, stated that he was delighted to accept the invitation to play this role. He thanked the Carnival Committee, the Culture Committee, the Mayor and the Municipal Council for the invitation. At the same time, he invited everyone to participate either with their team or with their float in the Great Carnival Parade, which will take place on Sunday, March 2 in Paralimni, as well as in the carnival events starting from Tsiknopempti. He pointed out that participation remains open.
The Deputy Mayor of Paralimni, Mr. Kleanthis Koutsoftas, underlined that Paralimni invites everyone to experience a special and spectacular carnival. He emphasized that this is the largest event in terms of audience and participants in the Famagusta district, expressing the certainty that this year too the records of participation and spectators will be broken, with people from all over Cyprus.
The President of the Culture Committee, Mr. Costas Michael, invited young and old to participate in the Famagusta Carnival events. He informed that the official presentation of the King will take place at the Tsiknopempti party outside the Paralimni - Deryneia Town Hall. He also mentioned that on Saturday, March 1, the evening - foot parade will take place and a party will follow in the square, while the big Carnival Parade will take place on Sunday, March 2, in the main streets of Paralimni. He invited those interested to register to participate with their team or float.
