The audience was impressed by the performance "My Grandmother Kyriakou", which was presented on December 4 at the Nicosia Municipal Theater and is a co-production of the Nicosia International Festival and the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia.
This is a play by Andreas Nikolaidis, directed by Kleitos Kleitos, which presents the life of Kyriakou Pelagia not as a biographical narrative, but as a collective memory. The performance revolves around the life and legacy of Kyriakou Pelagia, the woman who emerged as a symbol of Cypriot song and the musical tradition of Cyprus, through the eyes of her granddaughter, Irene Pelagia. The musical direction of the performance was by Irene Pelagia, who participated on stage with the actors Margarita Zachariou and Andreas Tselepos.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. George Nicolettos, stated that the presentation of the performance at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre marks the practical implementation of the memorandum of cooperation with the Nicosia International Festival and Nicosia For Art, laying strong foundations for joint cultural actions. At the same time, he expressed his warm thanks to the Municipality of Nicosia, the collaborating bodies, the production participants and the staff of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, with special reference to the family of Kyriakou Pelagia. In conclusion, he underlined that this performance marks the beginning of a substantial and long-term cooperation between the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, the Nicosia International Festival and the Municipality of Nicosia.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Nicosia, Mr. Charalambos Prountzos, referred to the close and creative cooperation that has been developed with the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, noting that this will continue and be strengthened in an even more practical way in the future, thanking Mr. Nicolettos for the relationship of mutual trust and cooperation that has been built between the two Municipalities.
