According to the Pancypriot Union of Government Doctors (PASYKI), the lack of doctors in the Accident and Emergency Department of the Famagusta General Hospital leads to "dangerous pitfalls" in terms of the health of patients.
In a statement, the Board of Directors of PASYKI states that the shortage of doctors at the TAEP of Famagusta is "a result of bad manipulations by the managers of OKYpY". It is added that "after the recent resignations of three Specialist Doctors, OKYPY, considering itself to be original, proceeded to purchase services from unqualified doctors, a fact that exposes it, since relevant legislation, regulations and agreements are violated, as regards the staffing of the TAEP, which aim to ensure the quality of the services provided".
In the announcement it is also noted that "the height of mismanagement is the intervention of the Medical Director in the on-call program of the TAEP, who in her attempt to transfer responsibilities to the medical staff, as a corrective measure, indicates and by extension requires such as the night shift - in total 12 hours of work – to be covered by only one doctor”.
The Syntechnia characterizes this move as an "unacceptable and reprehensible action" and reminds that "at TAEP the minimum number of doctors who work per shift and at the same time are considered security personnel is equal to two. It is clear that for those running the Famagusta General Hospital, their own standards and protocols apply, regardless of any consequences".
PASYKI "underlines that the doctors working on the front line are not responsible for the shortages and that they make a great effort to meet the needs of the patients, despite the difficult conditions. Those responsible for what is happening at the General Hospital of Famagusta await performance" concludes the announcement.
