The Larnaca JCC announces that today, March 21st at 1400, it suspended the Search and Rescue operation, which has been underway since the early hours of March 16th, following the receipt of information about a missing boat with migrants sailing off the coast of Cyprus. During the six days of the ongoing search, 2 survivors and 7 deceased were located at sea and recovered during the first two days, as mentioned in previous announcements.
No other missing persons have been located since then. The operation, which involved a helicopter, two warships, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the National Guard, a helicopter of the MAEP, six vessels of the Port and Maritime Police, nurses of the OKYpY ambulance service, helicopters of the British Bases, as well as passing commercial ships, lasted a total of 134 hours and covered an area of 2750 square nautical miles (5093 square kilometers).
The JCC is in full operational readiness to resume operations in the event that new information emerges.
