The President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, is currently touring the free province of Famagusta. At 9.45 in the morning he inaugurated a new wing-extension, the dialysis unit and the mammography center, of the Famagusta Hospital, in Paralimni, at 10.30 at the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Famagusta in Deryneia, he inaugurated the Memorial dedicated to the timeless contribution of actors, members and athletes of the GSE in the national games of our country, as well as the fallen and missing during the Turkish invasion of 1974 conscripts who come from the city and province of Famagusta, while he is then expected to visit the river Liopetriou, where he will lay the foundation stone of the fishing shelter.

The priority is to increase the dynamics and upgrade the operation of the Famagusta General Hospital
During his greeting, President Anastasiades expressed his joy at the inauguration of projects which, as he mentioned, concern the sensitive health sector and which, as he said, demonstrate the high level of priorities set by the Government, in order to create the conditions for providing high, quality and efficient level of medical and pharmaceutical services to the wider society. In this context, as he mentioned, and recognizing the increased needs of the wider area served by the Famagusta Hospital, the Government prioritized upgrading the operation and increasing its dynamics.

The expansion projects of the Hospital, as well as the operation of the Hemodialysis Unit and the Mammography Center that were inaugurated today, amount to a total cost of more than three million euros, they have well-equipped architectural facilities, providing all the necessary supplies to health professionals to carry out their work their.
At the same time, the new health services offered by the Hospital not only reduce patients' waiting times, but significantly enhance the health services provided to patients and beneficiaries of care in the free area of Famagusta and beyond, because they also cover the visitors of a of the most important tourist areas of the island.
Michalis Hatzipandelas: "My goal is to make this project a reality"
In his speech, the Minister of Health Michalis Hatzipandela said that when he took over the Ministry of Health about 18 months ago, during the pandemic COVID-19 the Famagusta hospital was the point of reference and the ever-increasing need for beds due to the pandemic left no other room, than "to lead an initiative together with the General Director of the Ministry of Health and to speed up the procedures in cooperation with OKYPY, so that the to make this project a reality in a short period of time".
The expansion of the hospital took 15 weeks and consists of facilities on the second and third floors with 54 beds, while the cost amounted to 1 million euros, he said.
Regarding the new modern dialysis unit which was a constant request of the patients of Famagusta province, the Minister said that it was completed in nine months. "The satisfaction of our patients is the driving force for continuing efforts to further upgrade the health services provided in the public hospitals of OKYPY", he added.
In addition to the operation of the Mammography Centers in Famagusta, Geroskipou and the upgrading of the remaining Mammography Centers in Aglantzia, Linopetra and Mackenzie, in the last nine months the Mammography Control Program for Early Detection of Breast Cancer has, among other things, been upgraded with the extension of the age limit its application, to women aged 45-74, and securing five new digital mammograms in each province, he said, equipment secured once again with a donation from OPAP, which he thanked.
Regarding the Famagusta Mammography Center, he said that he is upgrading the public health services offered by the state to the women of the region and I am sure that the latter will respond positively to the call.
At the same time, after yesterday's visit to the Famagusta hospital with the group of orthopedic doctors from the Shriners Hospitals in America, actions are underway to expand the government's cooperation by performing surgical operations at the Famagusta hospital - as a point of reference for the countries of the Middle East.
The first step has already been taken as there is a positive response from the doctors and we hope, he said, within the next few days to be able to announce more.
