PYRILLIS for Lake: "The garbage comes from Citizens of the Municipalities of Sotira and Deryneia"

The Mayor of Paralimni visited Lake Paralimni today together with the Environment Commissioner, Klelia Vassiliou.

As he mentions in a post, in the territory of the Municipality of Paralimni there is no garbage in the lake, while the photos that were released with garbage stressed that they come from the areas of the Municipality of Sotira and Deryneia.

He calls on the citizens of Sotiras and Deryneia to stop depositing garbage in the Lake, while at the same time the Municipalities of Deryneia and Sotiras to find immediate solutions.

Today we visited with the Commissioner for Environment Mrs. Klelia Vassiliou Lake Paralimni, for inspection of the area. In the territory of the Municipality of Paralimni, inside the Lake there is no garbage at all. The photos with the garbage circulating in the last days on Social Media and Mass Media are on the shores of the Lake, on the side of the Industrial area of ​​Deryneia and Sotira, something that was confirmed by the commissioner herself.

It is clear that all the garbage comes from Citizens of the Municipalities of Deryneia and Sotira. I call on them to stop dumping garbage in the Lake. I also call on the Municipalities of Deryneia and Sotira to find immediate solutions and to manage the waste of their citizens that need to be transported to green areas, so that the responsibilities are not thrown to the Municipality of Paralimni without fault. It is time to tell the truth, because we have to protect the efficiency of the services of the Municipality but also our image. Unfortunately, we are deported without any responsibility.

We are in full cooperation with the Department of Environment in handling several issues as well as with other state services as well as in constant communication with both the Minister of Agriculture and the Commissioner for Environment. Several efforts are already being made to keep the treasure of the Lake at the levels it deserves, no matter how many difficulties we face.
It is noteworthy that today we were surprised by a unique phenomenon of the presence of swarms of black flamingos in the Lake which you see in the photo.
