The Deryneia High School will be transformed into a six-grade school from the school year 2020-2021, in the context of better management of the students of the Paralimni - Deryneia area. The school will be renamed "Gymnasium-Lyceum of Deryneia - Sotira", with the aim of decongesting the Lyceum of Paralimni and at the same time serving the communities of Deryneia and Sotira.
To achieve the goal, students from Deryneia and the school year 2020-21 would enroll in the first grade of Paralimni High School, will enroll in the first grade of Deryneia High School - Sotira.
Fixed request since 2002
This important decision was sealed on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, in a wide-ranging meeting held at the Ministry of Education, chaired by the then Minister of Education, Costas Hambiaouris. The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, the Mayor Sotiras, Georgios Takkas, the President of the School Ephorate of Deryneia, Anna Protopapas, the President of the School Ephorate Sotira, Stelios Pavlikkas, the Director of De Parents of Deryneia High School, Christos Nikolaou and officials.
During the meeting, it was decided to promote all actions, so that the Gymnasium-Lyceum of Deryneia-Sotiras will gradually start its smooth operation from September 2020.
All stakeholders expressed their satisfaction for the creation of the Gymnasium-Lyceum, something which was a constant request of the two Municipalities since 2002. The competent Minister on his part promised that in the near future, he will submit a proposal to the Council of Ministers for decision making.

The joint committee of school boards of Gymnasium - Lyceum "Peace and Freedom" Deryneia - Sotiras invites to an informative meeting parents, students and teachers for the six-grade Gymnasium - Lyceum that will start operating in the school year 2020 - 2021.
