The memory of Saint Thekla was celebrated with particular splendor and religious devotion this year, in one of the largest religious gatherings in the free province of Famagusta. Hundreds of believers flooded the idyllic seaside chapel of the Saint, which is located in the Sotiras Municipal District of the Municipality of Ayia Napa.
On the evening of the eve, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the solemn Vespers was celebrated, presided over by the Panierotatos Metropolitan of Kyrenia, Mr. Chrysostomos. The service was attended, among others, by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, the Deputy Mayors of the Municipal Districts of Sotiras and Avgorou, Mr. Antonis Koumis and Panagis Michaelas, the Members of Parliament of the Famagusta district, Mr. Giorgos Karoullas, Onoufrios Koullas, Nikos Georgiou and a large crowd.
Immediately afterwards, the procession of the holy icon around the church took place with devotion. On the day of the feast, Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the Solemn Divine Liturgy was celebrated, presided over by His Eminence Bishop of Naples, Mr. Porphyrios.
Among the faithful who came to honor the Saint were the Deputy Mayor of the Sotiras municipal district, Mr. Antonis Koumis, and the Commander of the 7th M/C ΤΥ PZ, Brigadier General Mr. Marios Houvartas.
The celebration concluded with the procession of the holy icon, where the faithful received the blessing of Saint Thekla.
