An informational workshop on Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) and the applications of Assistive Technology in children and adults is being organized by the Sotiras Municipal District of the Municipality of Ayia Napa.
The event will take place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 11:00 to 14:00, at the Sotiras Social Welfare Center.
The aim of the conference is to inform and raise awareness among the public about the possibilities offered by modern technology in enhancing the communication of people with speech and language difficulties, as well as to present scientifically documented approaches and practical tools.
During the event, the basic principles of AAC, the Mind Express 5 system and its operation through grids, the available assistive technologies, as well as ways to apply them in education and everyday life will be presented, among others. At the same time, the importance of access to such systems, the processes of acquiring and utilizing them will be highlighted, while space will be provided for dialogue and exchange of experiences.
Speakers at the conference are Pantelis Makris, former Inspector of Special Education and specialist in Alternative Communication and Assistive Technology, Speech Pathologist Andri Anastasiou (BSc) and Speech Pathologist Alexandra Ioannou (MSc).
The conference is aimed at educators, health professionals, parents, caregivers and any interested citizen.
