The great celebration of Palm Sunday, also known as "Olive Sunday", was celebrated in a festive atmosphere this year in Sotira. This day marks the beginning of Holy and Great Week, introducing the faithful to the spirit of the Passion and Resurrection of the Lord.
At the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Sotira, the established Solemn Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated, presided over by His Holiness Metropolitan of Constantia and Famagusta, Mr. Vasiliou, in the presence of a multitude of believers.
Particularly moving is the fact that, before the Turkish invasion of 1974, this day was celebrated in the currently occupied parish of Saint Memnon in Famagusta.
After the Divine Liturgy, there was a litany around the church and the ceremony of blessing the olive branches.
