Police in Paralimni are investigating a case of circulation and possession of counterfeit banknotes, securing goods with false representations, attempted securing goods with false representations, theft and conspiracy to commit a crime against two men in the free area of ​​Famagusta.

According to the Police, the owner of a restaurant in Liopetri complained yesterday to the Famagusta Police Department that a 59-year-old man from Liopetri went to his premises and asked him to change a 50 euro banknote.

The owner of the restaurant changed the banknote but later found out that it was counterfeit.

At TAE Famagusta, the owner of a kiosk in Sotira complained yesterday to TAE Famagusta that she took a banknote from a person who later found out that it was counterfeit.

Police investigations revealed that the person who gave both the counterfeit banknotes was 59 years old from Liopetri and during an investigation he handed over to the members of the Force three more counterfeit banknotes.

The 59-year-old was arrested and taken into custody, while in his testimony he stated that the person who provided him with the counterfeit banknotes was an 80-year-old from Paralimni.

Members of TAE Famagusta went to the house of the 80-year-old and during a search, 78 counterfeit 50 euro banknotes were found, which at first sight seem to be counterfeit.

The two people were arrested and in the morning they are expected to be brought before the District Court of Famagusta for the issuance of a detention order.

The case is being investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
